Waiting for Dinner

Waiting for Dinner, originally uploaded by lit teacher.

What is better than a night out with friends? Saturday night was just that. Sandy, Andi, Lana, Nancy, Beth and I enjoyed dinner and a show. Dinner at Demos’ was a bit stressful considering we spent more time waiting to be seated than we did actually eating, but it was yummy. After a sprint to the theatre it was nice to relax in our theatre seats just in time for the house lights to dim and the show to begin.

Called to Teach

March 18, 2008

Vocation is a lifelong response to God in all aspects of one’s life. Work, paid and unpaid, is an integral part of the believer’s response to God’s call. One’s vocation may include multiple careers, volunteer opportunities, and should involve continual spiritual growth in every step of the life-journey to which God calls us. Principles of Vocation and Work

Wow.  I love these words.  I love this definition of vocation.

Will Makes Gak!

Will Makes Gak!, originally uploaded by lit teacher.

Cornstarch, baking soda, vinegar, food coloring and water is all you need to entertain a room full of boys. Tuesday night was Cub Scouts night. Will’s leader has done a great job getting together activities that really excite the boys. Tuesday they were able to see baking soda and vinegar blow up a balloon, watch magic marker colors separate into rainbows, and make gak out of cornstarch and water. It was all great, and Will came home happy.

It’s bed time, but I have one thing to say.

Slice of Life

March 1, 2008

I’m going to break the rules a bit. I’m writing about a slice of my life from yesterday instead of today. It is still early in the morning though and not much has happened today. :)

You remember the show Cheers don’t you? You know, the show about a place where everybody knows your name. Well, we have found that place right here in Waverly. It isn’t a bar, and we don’t go there every night to hang out with friends, but it is a place that feels like home just the same. It is a restaurant and every time we walk in we are greeted with a smile. Lately the kids have been too busy to join us, so many times we are greeted with, “Where is Will Redden?” which always reminds me of my little 3 year old Will whose answer when asked his name was always, “Will Redden” It is hard to believe that he is 8 now and we’ve been frequenting Marble Oaks for at least 5 years. We don’t make it every week, but many Friday nights you can find us amongst the crowd of patrons at this restaurant on the square. Last night it was just Bill and me. Will and Tobi were both spending Friday night with friends. As we walked in the hostess, Carol, greeted us and assured us it would be just a minute. I went to the restroom and when I returned, she was escorting Bill to a table and asking, “Just two tonight?” Our waiter was Jared, but the sweet waitress who always asks about Will came by our table just to say hello. There was a new item on the menu, southwest chicken. Bill ordered it and I stuck with one of my favorites, chicken tenders. The food was delicious as usual, and the atmosphere was great. A lot like being at home.
